Sand Andres & Providencia has recently been devastated by Hurricane Iota, the first Category 5 hurricane ever to hit Colombia.

According to Colombian authorities, Hurricane Iota, with winds of up to 260 km/h caused 98% damage in Providencia, including the local hospital. Communications were temporarily lost with the small island during and after the hurricane. The larger neighbouring island, Sand Andres, also experienced substantial damages.
